Ca n’Anglada, a suburb of Terrassa, embodies a story of migration and resilience. Founded by exiles from southern Spain after the Civil War, its residents built their homes with their own hands, enduring precarious conditions. In 1962, a devastating flood left an indelible mark on the neighborhood.
In the 1990s, a new wave of migration, primarily from North Africa, enriched the neighborhood’s cultural diversity but also brought new challenges. Over the years, many residents left, while the founding generations gradually faded away, taking with them a memory shaped by both hope and hardship. The rise of large commercial brands gradually replaced small local businesses, disrupting the neighborhood’s social and economic fabric and creating new vulnerabilities, sometimes linked to issues of crime.
My photographic project, launched after the pandemic, delves into the forgotten symbols of both the neighborhood and my childhood, while uncovering the socio-political tensions that have shaped its streets.
